Zoom and Social Work: Connecting People Everywhere

        Zoom has been an amazing resource to connect with others in the field of social work. The Zoom platform is not only good for social workers but many other professions. The great thing about Zoom is that anyone can use it by just signing up and starting a meeting. It offers convenience to many in the helper fields as well as to those who are seeking help. Not only does it connect helpers to those who need help, but it connects helpers to one another. This can make it much easier to get employees and or volunteers in an organization together in one place to have a meeting to go over important information or to collaborate. These are just some reasons why Zoom is so great to use for those in the social work profession.


        I have personally used Zoom on many occasions for various things related to social work. One of these things is to have meetings with other social workers in the area and discuss various needs in the community as well as share resources with one another. This is extremely beneficial for the work that social workers do. Resources are a vital part of Social Work; without them, we could not do our jobs properly. My non-profit organization also uses Zoom for board meetings when it is hard to meet in person. This is very convenient and makes it easier for everyone involved. 

        Zoom is also wonderful when it comes to practicing counselors. Counselors can meet patients through Zoom and reach people who are too far to travel or who are not able to get out of their homes. One of the great things about Zoom is you can also share your screen while you are having a meeting, this way you can show the information you have on your end with everyone else. The features on the Zoom video conferencing platform are great for many different situations. Zoom has a free option as well as other paid options depending on your need. The free version offers meetings for up to 100 participants, the option to record your meeting, a chat option, and the option to collaborate/share screens. These are some great features for many different needs!

    Great in-depth explanation of Zoom and its benefits. I love that you were able to connect Zoom to your future profession of Social Work. You did a great job of explaining many features that I did not know existed within the Zoom platform. Zoom is great and has really transformed the video chatting world.

    Hello! Like many others, I have utilized Zoom in my professional career. Zoom can be extremely helpful when you need a last-minute meeting or discussion. I love that Zoom is accessible to anyone and it is super easy to navigate. I will absolutely use Zoom in the future for meetings with faculty, students, and even parents. Great post!

 Chapter seven is called Sustaining the Momentum. A quote that stuck out from this chapter is, "What if you work and prepare, but nobody shows up for your network? Or worse, people show up, look around, decide it isn't worth their time, and leave!" This is a legitimate feeling that people have when creating a learning network. It is a fear that all the work you put in will be for nothing. But a lot of good things come from someone taking that chance. Chapter Five

            In chapter five we talk about using tools to support connected learning. It goes on to express the importance of bookmarking and archiving as tools in this. It mentions tools such as Delicious and Diigo for these purposes. In this chapter they mention that in the early days of the web one may have used bookmarking through the web browser. This is quite funny to me because I still use this resource. It is mostly how I keep track of important websites and other things that I do not want to lose track of.
